So let me start off by eliminating two things you can take off the list. Those are aperture and ISO. Aperture, I really can’t tell you what to set it on because it depends on the type of look you are going after. With a shallow depth of field or not. And the other one is ISO. ISO is kind of there for exposure how how you are going to set the exposure. I will say you do not want go too far north of let’s say 1600 especially on like the Canon T2i then it gets really noisy. Obviously you are going to need to use aperture along with the ISO to get the right exposure but at least it gets you in the ball park. Those two ingredients are taken off the list. So the first I can tell you about what is on the list is shutter speed. Basically if you are going for a “filmic” look you are pretty much going to double your frame rate, so if you are shooting 24 frames per second you are going to want a 1/50th of a second shutter speed and if you are shooting at 60 frames per second you are going to go with 125th frames per second shutter speed. Now I will tell you it’s just kind of a guideline and a rule but I have shot at much higher shutter speeds and it has worked wonderful, especially if you are shooting something like myself which is just

@jakeludington i believe this space between what appears semi professional and expert is smaller nowadays. d7000 is perhaps all we all want. visit… freedslr . com remove spaces and take the chance to bring home a new Nikon D7000

You are really a GREAT MAN, un Grand Homme ! I have a 52 movie to make in April and I am sometime lost. Merci à nouveau.

drumat5280 on March 30th, 2011, 12:51 am

@RpiProd you should get a very similar result, however the 50mm prime is slightly sharper.

Hello from Paris. What you do is really fantastic, you are really an expert. Ah, Americans are really the best in class in imaging. As I am french, I have a stupid question : I have a 7D with EF-S 18-135mm 3.5-5.6 and I really can not get the effect like as with a EF 50 mm 1.8 ( 50 mm is between 18 and 15, isn tit N? ) the one that you are using. Is it normal ? Or, am I really stupid ? Smile. Have a nice day. Vincent

thedmoneyify on March 30th, 2011, 3:11 am

@sourcekings Unless you do videos, and want a low angle shot. Makes it easier to see what your shooting that way.

sourcekings on March 30th, 2011, 3:16 am

@cuddietv take it back and get a t2i and buy a good lens with the money theres no reason for the 60d

FlavoredHeart on March 30th, 2011, 3:49 am

6400 doesn’t look extremley noisy

TryHardKnight on March 30th, 2011, 4:32 am

@SoccerShoos
Videos from the canon t2i and DSLRs are in h.264 format which is very choppy during editing. Download “MPEG Streamclip” for free and convert the files to an editing friendly format.
If you dont understand type in on youtube
“Canon 7D workflow” even though it is 7d it is exactly the same process with a 60d or a t2i

SoccerShoos on March 30th, 2011, 4:43 am

I just got my 60D today, but when I put the clip in iMovie, it gets noisy and choppy. What should I do? Pls help!

tweekin001 on March 30th, 2011, 4:46 am

This helped me understand why I was having so much saturation when filming my dark red wall with high ISO levels on the T2i. Thanks, Dave!

404lodge on March 30th, 2011, 4:48 am

Thanks for the video tips you have been sharing. I will be getting the 60D and will be using it to shoot mostly talking heads at chest height and waist height. What lens would you recommend for these positions without having to move the camera in close for the close ups and further back for the slightly distant (*waist) shot. What lens are you using in this video, and how far is the camera away from where you are standing?

karinzio on March 30th, 2011, 5:34 am

excuse the question. Did you use a dslr to do this video or a professional Camcorder?

Thank you very much …

cuddietv on March 30th, 2011, 5:36 am

@drumat5280 sure will, thanx!

drumat5280 on March 30th, 2011, 5:36 am

@cuddietv go to my site and click on the getting started guide at the top, that should get you going.

cuddietv on March 30th, 2011, 5:37 am

drumat5280 on March 30th, 2011, 6:37 am

@Cicada1337 i have done both (you will see an example tomorrow) and like the look of the non green screen better.

Cicada1337 on March 30th, 2011, 7:22 am

do you shoot this on a greenscreen and key it out? or do you actually have a black backdrop and good lighting? :P

y2vikram on March 30th, 2011, 8:09 am

Hi, Can you tell us how did you shoot this video and upload this quality in a 8 MB file for web?

drumat5280 on March 30th, 2011, 9:04 am

@GideonShalwick I have a really cool idea, send me an email from my site and I will explain it to you.

GideonShalwick on March 30th, 2011, 10:02 am
