Question by Catchy: can I use my canon rebel SLR lens to Nikon d80 DSLR?
I had a Canon Rebel 2000 SLR with 28-80mm lens. I want to buy a Nikon D80 DSLR and can I use the above lens if I just buy the body only?.
Is this a good fit and compatible.

Thanks for advice.
If not, Can I buy a Canon DSLR just the body and use this lens?

Nope.

They are all unique in design as well as function

Canon = Canon
Nikon = Nikon
Olympus = Olympus
Pentax = Pentax
Sony = Sony

Camera systems are by nature unique .. just like aircraft made by different manufacturers.

This is why you will see many of us encourage those new to photography to spend a lot of time deciding what camera system they want to invest in before just buying the camera “flavor of the month”.

When I was first learning, I bought a very old 35 mm rangefinder with one lens. While I learned how to use it and how f/stops and shutter speeds not only effected the images, but how they interrelated and could be used to control the final “look” of my photograph. Five years later I decided on which camera system I was going to invest in and to this day still use the same system. Yes, there have been times when another camera system had better this’s and that’s, but in the end those differences never effected my ability to produce quality images for my clients.

Choose a system that works for you and has the lenses and camera bodies that will do what you need it to do. Once you choose, don’t second guess yourself. Just get out there and start learning your craft.
