Excellent question. The chip is in fact the same sensitivity all the time. In order to give a higher ISO, the signal from the chip is amplified more and this produces the noise.

Depends on the focal length of the lens. A wide angle is much easier to hand hold than telephoto. 4×6 pictures can certainly be unsharp, but you’re right, the more you enlarge them, the more unsharp they will look . RB.
