Question by Bryson’s Mommy: How to get what I am taking a picture of on the big screen of my Nikon SLR?
I recently received a Nikon DX SLR camera as a gift and the instruction manuel is kinda little. How do I get to see what I am taking a picture of in the big screen? I use the viewfinder sometimes but I would also really like to use the big screen. Any tips?

Do you mean you want to transfer your images to a PC so you can see them on a big screen, or do you want to view the images you’ve shot on your camera’s display?

Have you gone to the Nikon website. Checked out the “Support” section of the website. And looked up the ‘user manual’ for your model camera? Most mfrs. make camera manuals available online for viewing or download. You can read it in however large a type font you want on your computer monitor….

I thought the DX was just NIkon’s designation for a smaller format (vs. full frame) camera – not a model number. You’re going to have to look up the manual and/or specs for your specific model of camera.

Depending on the model of your camera, it might or might not have a live view feature.

It’s called a dSLR because of that small viewfinder. The LCD can be used alternatively if it is offered as a LiveView feature. Not all dSLRs have LiveView. Check the manual no matter how little it is.

Giving us the exact model would help….. There are currently 4 different Nikon DX DSLRs; the D3000, D5000, D90, and D300s. Only the D3000 doesn’t have the option to let you take a picture with the LCD screen.

If you own any of the other cameras, refer to the instruction manual (search up “live view” in the index) on how to use it.
