My Canon EOS System
Canon SLR

My Canon EOS Camera System… This will likley be all I buy for a while, there is little I feel I lack at this point. The only addtions would be another DSLR rig for my wife Joleen who is now getting into photography or two (if we start doing more weddings).

As for the lack of sharpness here, it was because things were being rushed… this wasn’t set up to shoot gear porn, just took 20 sec and shot a quick snap of it while readying the other shots.

NOTE: This photo made it into Flickr’s ‘Explore" as one of the top five hundred most interesting photos on a particular day. You can see all of my photo’s that have made it into the Flickr Explore pages here.

``RBK`` on June 19th, 2011, 1:41 pm

Very NICE collection!!!
But I was wondering why this image is blurr when viewed large inspite of having all these ASSETS………………

fensterbme on June 19th, 2011, 1:42 pm

…well cause they were in the photo RBK, that and it was a quick shot I didn’t really spend any time on it, I was shooting camera bags and just took a quick snap of the lenses.

Cool. Do you ever feel the need to go a bit longer? Perhaps the 100-400 f4.5-5.6L IS? Or maybe a 2x teleconverter? I know tele isn’t your thing but I wonder if you would get into it if you had something a bit longer…

fensterbme on June 19th, 2011, 2:16 pm

@shoothead: I don’t normally ever feel the need to go longer… I’m not a wildlife or nature guy (a lot of those types of shots are okay, just not my passion), I guess I’m endless facinated with people, places and urban environments…. all to say since that’s my subject matter my 200mm on a crop factor Digital SLR suits me fine for most things.

That said, I would like a longer reach when I’m at our lake house occassionally…. So I’m very likely going to pick up the x1.4 teleconverter it gives me the extra range on my 70-200mm and I only loose one stop to f/4 which I can handle. I think the x2.0 converter two stop loss is a tad much and I’ve heard the images aren’t quite as sharp as ones with the x1.4 converter.

We also may be heading up to Alaska in the next year or so for an extended family vacation (my father lived in Nome Alaska for a while) and if/when that happens I’d likely get the 100-400mm lens, or even more likely I’d go for the Canon 28-300mm which would be great on a 5D.

So yes I guess I like the idea occassionally of going longer, but not often… Not often enough to get one high on the list of things to buy (which currently includes another camera body, a few lenses and Pelican hard shell cases… oh and then a White Lighting studio lighting setup).

You can always rent something for your Alaska trip.
:)

I wish I had my dSLR when I went to Alaska. I spent at least 200 beans on film. Arghhh!!!

fensterbme on June 19th, 2011, 3:55 pm

@shoothead: Do you rent the Canon 28-300mm?

shoothead on June 19th, 2011, 4:07 pm

Nope, and it’s the first anyone has asked about it. I’ll investigate. It could be on the roster in a couple months…

Envy! :( :)

jay_doraiswami on June 19th, 2011, 5:28 pm

Since you are an experienced photographer and (it sounds like) you shoot at weddings, I would like your advice on buying a flash unit for my Rebel Xti.

I like to shoot large groups (weddings, meetings etc.) in addition to the normal family pictures. I looked at an interesting unit from Sigma but it did not have a 45 degree tilt bounce feature. Metz units have this. The Canon makes seem expensive but if that is what it takes…

fensterbme on June 19th, 2011, 6:06 pm

@jay: yes.
