My old camera
My old camera

My old Ricoh XR-1 camera that my dad gave me, which I stopped using about 3 years ago when I went digital – first to the Fuji F700, and now my Canon 400D DSLR.
This camera here served me well for many years – it’s what I learnt photography on, particularly in the weeks following my accident where I had opportunity while I had time off from work to really get into researching exposure, composition, reading books and others’ photo galleries. It was at this point that I feel I moved up a level in my photography.
It was 4 weeks after my accident back in 2002 even while I still had a frame on my right hand and forearm that I took this shot – one of my all-time personal favourites, and my most popular rated pic on flickr.
Items in the pic from left clockwise: Ricoh XR-1 35mm manual camera with Rikenon 28-70 zoom, Osawa 70-150 telephoto with single focus/zoom sleeve, Sunpak hotshoe flash, Flexar 2x converter ring, Arrow polarising filter and Hoya 81B warming filter.

I have a old SLR somewhere I should dig it out. I also have a1930 and 1951 camera. All in working order.
1930′s? Geez, I’d love to see that!! What, not a view camera?
its a mirror on a lens stick one. Its very old but in good nick, a few years ago we had some film hand made and tried it out, still works.
