With a nice good jump and with upgrades better than those of the D200 then definitely! I can wait a couple of months. To be honset, I was almost out today to purchase the D200, as I’m very anxious to upgrade from my D70s!
I believe the NIKON D300 will have the following features:
(1) 12.4 MP or higher CMOS Sensor (like D2Xs)
(2) Addition of ISO 50
(3) Improvements in high ISO Noise Reduction (Range 50-6400)
(4) Increase to 6 fps with fully-adjustable rate
(5) Self-Cleaning Sensor (like Canon Rebel XTI)
(6) Higher maximum Flash Sync speed (up to 1/500 sec.)
(7) Improved Build-Quality of MB-D300 over MB-D200 unit

All the speculation about what Nikon may or may not do in regards to the D300 is secondary to taking pictures. It took 7 months for my D200 to come in. If you want to take the best photographs now and not at some indefinite date in the future, buy a D200 with a lens kit and get shooting! Who knows what shots you will miss waiting for a camera that has not even been announced yet. On the other hand, I have learned my lesson and intend to order the D300 the day they are announced… Nikon has a terrible habit of not making enough to meet demands and I will not spend another $5000 on a 35mm style digital camera, unless it is on someone else’s dime (I bought a D1X- now a paper weight)…
I want–1]Nikon pl listen–no price hike too much!I m canon user–i want to go fr nikon d300–1] no price hike 2]flash sync more than 1/500 3]all lens compatible–no hinderance for all type of nikon lenses 4]moisture resistant 5]aniti-vibration mechanism inside the camera 6]not too heavy to loose our shoulder, but ruggedly built7]same handling features as nikon d200 8]no noise at all in higher ISO, olympus now goes up to ISO 6400!
I currently have a D70 and have been looking to upgrade to a camera that will work in low lighting conditions. I been considering the Canon Mark III, but would prefer to stay with Nikon. Hopefully, the D300 will work well in low light.
While I do not recall the gentleman’s name he worked for time life magazine until his death in his late 90s and what was so remarkable about the gentleman he was able to take beautiful photographs with a very simple all manual camera that he purchased new in the early 30s instead of purchasing a new camera every 18 months we should learn photography, for the very basics so no matter what camera “you” have the photographer will always be able to make beautiful photographs.
All of this is speculation and nobody knows for sure what Nikon will do. However, time marches on and they will come out with a replacement sooner or later. I am going to buy one when they do. The rumor is that the D3X is going to come out first. After that, the next one should be a D300. I am expecting more pixels, faster writing speed, higher flash sync, and little things, like maybe a better battery. I am hoping for a release before Christmas, but the amateurs are not the market for this camera. D300 buyers do not purchase for gifts generally. They buy them for themselves and they can afford to buy when they wish.
Im a Nikon fanboy but you can’t compare Canon Mark III (pro level with the semi-pro rage of the Nikon D100′ series D200, or even D300).
I suspect that like the Canon 5D the nikon d300 should be full frame (semi-pro range), with more noise reduction at hight iso and more fps.
The body should be more like the BIG pro DSLR (d1 d2) and not like the smaller ones d40-d80, even through we know the construction is better.
I think if anything if the d300 does go full frame it will compete with the canon 5d and also in that price range. Then nikon will up grade the d200 to a s or x model.
The New D300 should compete with the 5D
Full Frame
Less noise at high ISO
And should have good fit in the hand.
All of this is speculation by people who probably know about what I know. Nothing. I do know that whatever Nikon comes out with will be better than what is now in the marketplace. As to when that will happen, who knows? In the meantime, if you don’t have a camera and are waiting to get a DSLR, buy a little point and shoot with a high pixel count. The 10 megapixel models do very well with everything but straight lines. In fact, their capabilities are quite amazing.

There we go at last!!!
Nikon has finally “corrected” the horrible D200 banding fiasco. Good! If the image quality is OK (no banding etc.), I’ll buy it soon. So far, I’ve been happy with my excellent D70s, which I love.
I am sure they fixed the little problems of the 200.
tHE nIKON D300 IS mY nEW sOON..OR lONG TO BE MY NEW CAMERA
The Nikon D300 is a great looking camera that will have the problems from the D200 fixed.
We can presell them now if you like to buy one.
