Off camera interviews with news station?

i sent in a story idea to a news cast and they called me back and want to schedule an interview next week sometime. they said they would call me back by the end of the week to set one up…my question is this: Can they do off camera interviews? would they still be interested in my story and and want to interview me if i choose to be off film?
EDIT: Its not a major interview. I’m pretty sure it won’t be portrayed to make me look bad or the opposite. I just have an item from a consumer that is a defect and the company won’t pull the item from the shelves. I just want the word out there and for people to be aware.

Sure. Ask them. They are people like you and me. With that said, expect whatever you give them to be highly edited to the point of portraying exactly the opposite of what you meant to say.

If you can live with that, go ahead.
