Question by Stephanie: What digital SLR camera should I buy?
I’m looking for suggestions on what type of digital SLR camera I should buy. I’m a beginner and would mainly be using the camera to shoot pictures of football games but other things too such as everyday pictures or vacation pictures etc. I’ve used both a canon and nikon camera but i’m looking for suggestions on which camera i should start out with and what type of lens i would need to shoot quality pictures at a football game. My price range is no more then 700. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Try looking at the Nikon D5000
It has a movable screen for high or low shots
It preforms well in low light
It shoots HD video
and its under 700 dollars

I say looking at the Sony a33 because the 7 frames per second shooting rate will be great at the football games so you can get any shot you like. plus its more compact than most DSLR cameras because it has a transparent mirror so theres no movement inside the camera.

The obvious answer is the Nikon D3100. A very fine DSLR with a learning mode built in. In case I haven’t been persuasive, you might want to use this buying guide.

I would consider Nikon D3100 14.2MP Digital SLR Camera
* 14.2-megapixel DX-format CMOS image sensor;
* 3-inch monitor with One-Touch Live View shooting and movie capture
* Full 1080p HD Cinematic Video with full-time autofocus and sound
* Easy-To-Use Nikon Guide Mode with intuitive controls and on-board assistance

I love my Olympus e-620. I found this camera on sale at http://www.digitalimaginghq.com/olympus-e620-262160-digital-slr-camera-body-only.html but it’s the body only. It’s on sale for $ 699, so it’s right in budget with how much you were looking to spend. I’m not too sure about the various lenses for the camera itself, that you may just have to do your research with. Hope my suggestion is at least a good start.

Many cameras you can choose:
1. Canon EOS T2i
2. Nikon D3100
3. Nikon D7000
4. Nikon D90
5. Canon Rebel XS
All of the above all good in quality.
Now the decision is yours…

Well..Since you’re intending to shoot at a football game you would need to look at a good telephoto lense and a fairly high shooting speed.. I really hate to say this but a good telephoto lens would set you back at least 600-700$ on its own. Until you can pick up a decent telephoto lens for yourself I would suggest borrowing one or renting one from a photographer in your area. The Canon Rebel T2i is an excellent camera for your needs . It’ll give you 3.7 fps which should be enough for your needs. Its lightweight enough to be used as a regular camera and it does excellent video too. It has an inbuilt autofocus motor so that way you can save some money by purchasing lenses that do not possess the autofocus motor. The D5000 from Nikon is equally good, however it lacks the onboard autofocus so your lens purchases will be more pricey. In my opinion the Canon seemed far easier to handle than the Nikon. You might want to invest in a tripod for those ultra long range shots. My apologies if I’ve gone over your budget which I’m certain I have, but photography does tend to get a tad expensive. I don’t know how you feel about Pentax as a company but I have heard good things about them as well and they’re comparatively a little easier on your wallet. My money is still on the Canon T2i. A final bit of advice…Go with what you’re most comfortable with. Try out the camera and if there’s a store that will loan you one for a few days go ahead and try it out.

Hope this helps. :) . Do let me know how it works out for you.

Eric
