I am interested in buying a digital SLR camera. My budget is around $ 500. This camera would not be for professional use. I don’t know what brand is best and what features are important. Any help would be useful. Thanks.

Any brand will be great.

The two main features that might help you make a decision are video and live view. Not all cameras have these features. Live view is what allows you to see the scene before you press the shutter button and if you want that you will have to make sure that the camera has it. I don’t know if there’s a DSLR with video in your price range. If you want video you may have to pay a little more.

10-12MP is plenty and will let you make large prints as long as the subjects in your photos are sharp.
