Tripod, (M) anual mode. Lowest ISO. Shutter at 30 seconds or BULB. Aperture F/9

Use view screen to fine tune aperture setting with each successive shot.

Good advice from Mere Mortal as usual – check your histogram as you go… fireworks are surprisingly forgiving actually, but the results will be better if the display occurs around dusk, as you can get some nice rich blue sky effects too. ;-)

For any type of cameras the best mode is M manual. Because you can set everything yourself. If you are taking pictures at night or just in darkness You should use the longest time-exposure (from 10s at least) and open the aperture F (usually 2.8). This makes your camera get as much light as it can get.

100iso, F8-f16, shutter of 4-30 seconds. Settings around there work best for me. Use the camera in M (manual mode)

What ever gives you the best exposure is the best way.
