I have Canon 1000D SLR. What lens (mid range budget) should I use to take pictures of professional quality?

I have the same cam. It comes with the 18-55mm which is good for landscapes. Try getting an EF 75-300mm II USM lens. It’s a telephoto lens and it comes in a good price. But if you have money to spend get an EF 18-200mm IS lens. You can do landscapes and it has a good range of zoom without having to change lenses. It depends where you will use it. Also consider the maximum aperture in it if you plan to shoot in low light conditions.

We need more details. What is a “mid-range budget?” What do you want to shoot? Macro? Portraits? Sports? Or a general purpose lens? Without knowing these things, it’ll be hard to suggest a lens that suits your needs.
P.S. You can’t just buy the best lens out there, mount it on your camera, then expect professional quality photos. It may improve the image quality a little, but you can’t take pro quality photos if you have no idea what you’re doing.
The camera and lens are only a small part of taking good photos, but the rest is up to the photographer (lighting is an important part of the equation as well).
